Sailboat on the water at sunsetHow Much Does A Session Cost?

I am a fee for service provider.  I accept payment via cash, debit, cheque or credit card at the time of service.

It is my experience that insurance companies are imposing increasing limitations on coverage that are adversely affecting the practice of physiotherapy.  Cramming as many patients into a day as possible, seeing patients more frequently than necessary, and continuing treatment over prolonged periods to maximize ever dwindling reimbursement rates is not in your best interests.

When you are in my clinic for treatment you receive my undivided attention.  I treat only one patient at a time.  I do not pass you off to support staff; I personally provide all of your treatment.

I take the time required to make lasting change, instead of doing as much as I can fit into a 15-30 minute session.

In short, by operating as a fee for service practice, I am able to provide highly specialized treatments that focus upon results.

I offer two levels of treatment.  While I am enthusiastic about the power of the Structural Integration Session Series, I know that there may be some who would prefer the classic physiotherapy treatments involving exercise or site specific work.

1. Structural Integration: $120.00 per session
  (approximately 75 minutes)

2. Site Specific  Session: $75.00 per session
   (45  minutes)

How is SI different from other therapies?

Structural Integration is unique because it is a systematic process for achieving optimal somatic structure and function by way of a permanent resolution of strain patterns.  Massage is most frequently aimed at providing relaxation or local (but usually temporary), pain remediation.  Many other therapies are only directed at the symptomatic relief of pain and not necessarily the reolution of the pain pattern.  The optimal goal is to create the conditions where the client is independent and stable on their own, not to create a long-term dependency on the therapy or therapist.

Why 12 sessions?

The Series is an elegant process where the work of each session predicts the need for the next by inviting structural disorder to surface, then unwinding years of habitual compensation, and then allowing the optimal order to emerge.

Does the work last?

Yes! The body continues to integrate the work long after the series is complete.  Keep in mind however, as life changes, bodies change in response.  Any new injuries, accidents, lengthy illnesses or emotional stress may necessitate additional work.  The desire to acquire greater levels of personal growth may also stimulate the client to seek further work.

Do I have to commit to the whole series?

Structural Integration is a process that is experienced within the context of a 12 session series.  If you want to achieve the optimal results possible with the process then yes, you
should commit to the complete series.  However, no commitment is necessary to work with me.  I am here to support your goals, not mine, so I am available for remedial work on an as needed basis.

What other conditions can be helped with Structural Integration?

People completing the Structural Integration process have reported improvement with a wide variety of conditions such as: bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, coccyx injury, fibromyalgia, frozen shoulder, golf elbow, headaches, hip replacement, knee replacement, kyphosis of the spine, lordosis of the spine, migraines, neck pain, osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis, post surgery recovery, post delivery recovery, rotator cuff rehabilitation, sciatica, shin splints, sports injury, scoliosis, stress management, tendonitis, tennis elbow, thoracic outlet syndrome, TMJ and whiplash injury.

Can you cure my particular issue?

Your body is the real healer. I cannot “make” you get better.  I can only cultivate the conditions for health. My role is to help remove the barriers that prevent your body's healing mechanisms from operating at their fullest functioning.  That being said, I am confident that every client I have worked with would testify to their satisfaction with the results they achieved in working with me.

Does the work hurt?

If you ask ten different people who have undertaken SI you will get ten different answers to this question.  My work will NEVER create damage or harm. However the work can occasionally be intense.  Particularly if we choose to work through scar tissue, or if there is a deep emotional charge being held.  Everyone's threshold for pain is different, so I work with each client as the individual that they are.  I work at a level and speed that is appropriate and acceptable to each client.

What should you wear for a session?

Your comfort is most important but ideally:

Women should wear underwear/ running shorts and a bra.
Men should wear close fitting underwear or running shorts

How often should I have a session?

Most clients find that once a week is ideal for the structural integration session.  For some people once every 2 weeks might be better.

How long does it take for changes to appear in my body?

Some people feel significant change as the session takes places.  Others report change that occurs hours or days later.  For some people, weeks go by until realizations of change are noticed.  The changes that occur are personal and everyone's experiences are unique.  The only consistency with change is that it is always occurring.  It is fairly common to see even greater change in a client 3 months after completing the process than that which was observed right after the final session.

What Exercises are appropriate between sessions?

I may give you a few simple exercises as homework which will help the work progress.  If you are already participating in a regular exercise routine, I recommend that you pay close attention to how your body is responding to those exercises.  Generally, I recommend easing off on machine reps and heavy strength training, as these activities can create structural shortness.  Stretching, yoga, and fluid, easy exercises like Qi Gong, Tai Chi or dance are the most compatible with SI.

Do you offer acupuncture treatments?

Yes.  I am certified through Acupuncture Foundation of Canada.  Studies support a growing role for the use of acupuncture in Western medical practices, with next to no side-effects from its use.  Certified physiotherapists can incorporate acupuncture into their treatment sessions, with the following therapeutic goals:

  • decrease inflammation
  • promote tissue healing and regeneration

Acupuncture can be incorporated into your structural integration sessions, at no additional cost.

Is your work covered by my insurance?

Yes, if your insurance covers physiotherapy.
